Qualifications: Required Qualifications/Skills: Junior or senior in college. Interest in medical news. Outstanding research skills. Ability to take direction and work independently. Multi-media knowledge a plus. Should be prompt, proactive, courteous, inquisitive, and professional at all times. Awareness of how television news is written and how video is chosen for scripts are a plus. Intern schedules will vary depending on which project or team they are working on. Duties: Please Note: Students @ Work Internships are paid at minimum-wage and structured to last approximately 12 weeks. Program dates are January 28 - April 19. Course Credit is available. Resume is required. Students should have a strong academic record (3.0 strongly preferred). Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. STUDENTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL DURING THE TIME OF THIS INTERNSHIP). Internship Description: Interns gain insight into the editorial process, while interning at CNN s Medical Unit in Atlanta. They will strengthen their research skills while contributing to live segments and the SG MD show. They will also participate in staff meetings, and have the opportunity to accompany producers who go out and shoot stories. In production, interns learn how scripts are written and how to use various CNN databases, such as using CNN's tape database to locate tapes for packages and sound bites for air. They learn how scripts are turned into packages and edited, as well as how stories are developed for our health page: cnnhealth.com.
