Category: Technical Facility: South Georgia Medical Center Department: CANCER ADMINISTRATION Schedule: PRN Shift: Days Hours: 8-5 Job Details: POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Support Services, Compliance & Quality Assurance Officer, or the Executive Director (as assigned), the Applied Sociology Intern assists in creating effective, accurate, and evidence-based assessment measures for hospice processes, programs, services, and/or operations. He/she may also participate in program/process evaluation procedures as requested. The Applied Sociology intern will spend at least one hour each week discussing duties and experiences with assigned supervisor. He/she is also responsible to represent HOSG and its services in a competent, professional manner consistent with the organization’s culture of service and teamwork. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Required active enrollment in a school of sociology. Experience with Hospice or Palliative Care preferred. Required adherence to the hospice philosophy and ability to work as member of interdisciplinary team in meeting the unique needs of the terminally ill. Must have positive attitude with demonstrated ability to handle delicate situations and to communicate effectively with members of the hospice team, patients/families, and community agencies/institutions. Must possess ability to work non-judgmentally with persons of diverse cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds and lifestyles. Must be self motivated with strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, handle pressure, and utilize critical thinking/problem-solving techniques. Demonstrated ability to respond well to supervision and work independently with minimal direction and appropriate collaboration when required. Ability to operate clinical equipment as well as office equipment such as computers, telecommunications devices, etc. Must have current Georgia driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and the availability of a reliable, licensed and insured vehicle for use on the job. Must have current CPR certification.
