Under the direction of the Coding Educator, the coding Intern will be given the opportunity and resources to further his/her education in an acute care environment. The program will further the intern's knowledge base and is applicable in the hospital setting. Individuals who successfully complete the Coding Internship will meet the minimum education qualifications for application and employment at LHI and its affiliates. An equal opportunity employer. Qualifications Education: HighSchool Diploma or Equivalent (GED) AND completion of a formal coding program. Acceptable programs include: CHS Coder Transition Program, AHIMA Coding Basics Program, or a medical coding program through a university or college. Upon completion, the participant should be able to: Demonstrate ability to apply ICD-9-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 procedural coding of ancillary hospital records to include clinics, laboratory, radiology, rehabilitation, and recurring accounts. Demonstrate ability to perform abstracting and use the 3M encoder. Demonstrate ability to navigate the electronic medical record. Pass competency tests at 85% or above monthly.
