The County of Volusia is seeking a student intern for the Growth and Resource Management Department to work in the Green Volusia Program. This position is located in DeLand, Florida, and will be responsible for working with community volunteers on an educational program, identifying educational opportunities, attending educational outreach events in the community, and creating and/or identifying educational material for the Green Volusia web site. The Green Volusia Program is committed to providing excellent service to the citizens of Volusia County by expanding green practices within county operations, educating the public about environmentally responsible practices, and becoming a leader in sustainability. Illustrative Duties: (NOTE: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Assist with the expansion of the Green Volusia Program through public awareness and a Green Volusia community volunteer group. Identify educational opportunities and attend educational outreach events in the community. Work with community volunteers on an educational program. Create and/or identify educational material for the Green Volusia web site. Performs related work as required. Minimum Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in junior year coursework, or be a senior (undergraduate), seeking to enhance their skills in a related degree, such as Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geography, Education, English, or other comparable fields. To be eligible for a County of Volusia internship, the ideal intern must: Be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational school operating in Volusia County and: A full-time undergraduate student (Fall/Spring-12 credit hours; Summer–6 credit hours); Be currently seeking a degree in an area of study related to the internship position; Be able to work up to 12 weeks during the assigned internship; and, Have and maintain a minimum 2.8 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 grade scale for undergraduates and a minimum 3.0 grade point average or higher for graduate students. Be currently seeking a degree in an area of study related to the internship position. Will have or seeking a degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Geography, Education, English, or other comparable fields. Undergraduate Salary: $10.00/hour Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of the project to be done. Knowledge of sustainability concepts, issues and educational outreach. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to complete assignment within the project time period. ADA REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Light to moderate work. Mental Demands: Ability to analyze data and develop a conclusion. Ability to speak and communicate complex ideas and information. Environmental Demands: Office and field work.
