It is a division of Nemours, a non-profit organization dedicated to children's health and health care that offers treatment services, research and training programs in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. Health and Prevention is Nemours' newest division, created to expand its reach beyond clinical care to consider the health of the whole child within his or her family and community. We work toward integrated policy, practice and program change across the ages and stages of children’s healthy growth and development. For more information, visit online at www.GrowUpHealthy.org. This position resides in the Healthcare Engagement department. Project Description: The Healthcare Engagement Deparment at Nemours Health and Prevention Services is working to train Nemours Pediatrics practices on routine developmental screening using a standardized, validated screening tool (Parent Evaluation of Developmental Status, PEDS). The American Academy of Pediatrics has released a policy statement recommending standardized developmental screening using a validated tool at the 9-, 18- and 30-month well-child visits. At present, Delaware ranks 49th out of 50 states in developmental screening. Until the inception of this project, Nemours was not using a validated screening tool at well-child visits. This was a missed opportunity for early identification of developmental and behavioral concerns, reimbursement for the practices, and better outcomes for patients. NHPS began training Nemours Pediatrics practices on the implementation of standardized developmental screening in March 2012, and will continue this work into 2013. Delaware Division of Public Health has undertaken a statewide initiative to improve developmental screening efforts across the state. This project will allow Nemours practices to meet the AAP guidelines and remain current with other efforts in the state. We are seeking an intern to aid in materials development and participation in training and TA activities. Intern Project Deliverables: Updating of electronic and paper resource guides created in summer 2012 specific to each practice to aid in referrals. On-site support to Shari Thomassen at pediatric practices for training and technical assistance visits. Participation in partnership with DE-AAP and DPH for the statewide screening portal. Assistance with data collection and management for PEDS project. Don’t miss out on important health care news and updates from Nemours – connect with us on…
