The Counselor is responsible for providing career counseling/ advising with individuals, group programs, career planning courses, internships, outreach opportunities, special events, information technology, and/or any other available resource to students and graduates of FIT. The Counselor works collaboratively with industry, other Center and college faculty, and staff on programs and events. Works in partnership with the academic departments to provide students with the real world experience that aid them in identifying and attaining their internship, career, and lifelong learning goals. -Teaches and supports the Four Step Model to clients in the process of helping them integrate this learning into their professional development. The Four-Step Model of career development serves a guide to a client's progression from self knowledge to exploration to the job search to professionalism, and it underlies all that the CIC does in the service of students. -Makes career information available to students and alumni: job experiential education and internship listings, and employer information. -Assists students and alumni with career development, career decision making, locating and applying for internships and jobs, including resumes and cover letters, and improving job-interviewing techniques. -Refers students to appropriate internships and job opportunities. Monitor student's progress through internship experience. -Promotes and maintains relationships with employers who may provide internships and employment opportunities for students and alumni, through contact and visits. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Counselors require a Master's Degree in Counseling or a relevant post-graduate degree and a minimum of four (4) years of counseling/ advisory experience or seven (7) years of industry experience. Familiarity with career fields of interest to art, design, business and technology students desired. -Strong interpersonal and communication skills in the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. -Knowledge of career development theories, and Internship programs. -Knowledge of advising/counseling techniques and programs with a student centered focus. -Knowledge of industry resources related to FIT academic programs and industry trends. -Ability to adapt to change. Additional Information: 22 hrs/week; Monday to Friday Schedule subject to change based on needs of the department. Salary Schedule 98/0 ($36.56/hr) This appointment only runs through the fall 2011 academic semester.
