Public Policy and Advocacy Intern Position Position Description: The ACLU of Kansas and Western Missouri is seeking an intern for the Winter 2012 semester. This internship will provide a student with practical, hands-on-experience working for a non-profit advocacy organization in Kansas. Interns must commit to working a minimum of 15 hours per week for 12 weeks beginning in January 2012. This position requires bi-weekly meetings in Kansas City, MO and minimum travel to Topeka, KS. Internship Responsibilities will include but not limited to: * Preparations for advocacy days in Topeka, including accompanying advocates to the capitol; * Public policy issue research, legislative tracking, monitoring, and reporting; * Assist in developing and planning issue advocacy and awareness events; and * Opportunities to attend coalition meetings, legislative hearings and other state agency meetings. Organization Description: The ACLU is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization that works to protect and defend the Constitutional rights and civil liberties of every individual in Kansas and Western Missouri regardless of creed, race, religion or other labeling through education, advocacy, and litigation. Candidates need strong research, writing and organizational skills and willingness to work in a professional setting. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment is critical.
