This candidate will assist with development and maintenance of the VIZ Media presence on the Internet. Duties will include updating existing web material, entering new information, building web tools, and assisting Engineering team with regular duties and special projects. Candidates for this internship should have general experience with and/or interest in software programming. PRIMARY DUTIES Development Assists with back-end programming and production of VIZ Media websites Develops and implements new software systems and interfaces utilizing web scripting/databases, mobile development (iOS, Android, Ruby/Rails & MySQL) General web/HTML support and assignments based on skill level. Maintenance Assists in maintenance of VIZ Media websites and mobile applications (including iOS and Android), including the implementation of content updates through CMS tools. Assists in creation of fresh web content, under guidance of the engineering team. Other duties as assigned MINIMUM ABILITY, SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS MUST have basic understanding of one of the following: Ruby/Rails, Objective C, Java environments Ability to work in Mac OS X or UNIX/Linux environments Proficiency in Javascript with good Ajax capabilities Knowledge of one of the popular Javascript frameworks is a PLUS - JQuery, Prototype, Dojo, Mootools, etc. Experience in Database Design & Management: MySQL, Postgres, etc. a PLUS Proficiency in HTML and CSS a MUST; HTML 5 and CSS frameworks a PLUS UI experience a PLUS Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English Ability to pay strong attention to detail Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines Ability to communicate and interact professionally with culturally diverse clients, providers, and staff Ability to work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork Ability to work legally in the United States Ability to live in/commute to the San Francisco Bay Area COMPENSATION/SCHEDULE This position will be compensated at a rate of $15.00/hour. All applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or graduate school program. We will NOT consider candidates who are not currently enrolled in a degree program. This internship will be a part-time position. All applicants MUST be able to work at least 12-18 hours/workweek between the hours of 10-5 on weekdays, to a maximum of 20 hours (schedule TBD). The Fall internship schedule will run 14 weeks, from the week of September 3 through the week of December 3.
