For those who don't know there is a global start-up competition going on right now which will determine the 100 most promising start-up companies in the world. Guidewire, sponsored by the likes of Best Buy, Bing, Cisco, Ebay and more, is targeting top entrepreneurial cities across the world including London, Tel Aviv, Berlin, Silicon Valley, and of course Seattle (woot) and in each city is hosting a competition where 8 start-ups go head to head pitching their business ideas and getting graded by a scientifically standardized (G/Score) which predicts start-up success.

Each competition also includes a 1-minute quick pitch event before the main competition that allows the winner and a ninth start-up to be included in the main competition.  In Seattle the eight accepted companies included a range of tech stand outs, some with upwards of a couple million in funding.  InternMatch put together a kick-butt presentation and went from quick pitch candidate to runner-up and crowd favorite of the main event (and we are now in the running to be named one of the top 100 start-ups in the world).

Here's how it went down:

The Quick Pitch:

InternMatch superstar intern Alex Lassiter takes the stage pretending to be a founder.  With composure he gives a speech on the value of interns and then proves it by dropping the bomb that he himself is an InternMatch intern.  (Thanks to Alex for the great performance!).

With a landslide victory InternMatch moves to the main event.

While a couple in the crowd were demanding more Alex, Andrew Maguire, Founder and InternMatch CEO takes the stage.  Not to be a one trick pony Andrew gives a thorough and poised presentation on the value of the online internships business.

The Final Results:

Optify takes first place, InternMatch takes second, and Pathable takes third.

All of the companies that presented and those in the quick pitch event did a brilliant job and we are honored to have been amongst them.  The 2nd place finish means we are positioned well to make a run to be included as one of the top 100 start-ups in the world based on G-Score.  Look for more news from the Innovate 2010 event shortly, and in the meantime check out Brian Rowe's coverage of the event and videos of the different pitches on Youtube!
