Find Your Focus, A TEDX for Career Advice

Last week we launched our Find Your Focus speaker series, featuring Dave Schappell and Mike Su.  The goal of Find Your Focus is to bring industry leaders directly to college campuses where they can share heartfelt career advice and tips.  Later this month we have scheduled current and former executives from companies including Google, Amazon, HP, Zynga, Break Media and more.

How it works:

We instruct our speakers to be real about their personal challenges, successes, and how they got to where they are now.

We encourage them to be transparent about salary information, what they love and hate about their current and former positions.

We also have speakers give actionable tips about how they got their start and how you can land a great job after graduation.

We film the speeches and then produce them with a quick trailer and full video here.

Most students make the jump into the career world with too little information about what makes for a great career -- Find Your Focus is just one way we are changing this.

Speakers/Schedule:

3/31/2011 -- Dave Schappell is a former Amazon product manager, professional poker player, micro-finance industry leader, and current CEO of TeachStreet.com, one of Seattle’s most successful startup companies.  Check out his advice here!

4/4/2011 -- Mike Su has had about as winding a career as could be imagined.  After interning for the 76ers he joined an internet company that quickly IPOed and made a lot of money.  Afterwards he joined another internet company that quickly tanked in the late 90’s as the internet bubble burst.  Mike then shifted gears and turned to drawing and producing comics.  While the comic book business didn’t take off he learned a lot and eventually was offered a position as a Product Manager at Symantec. Realizing he didn’t love the large corporate culture at Symantec he quit and joined another early-stage company called Break Media, which has since grown to one of the 30 largest online media companies right behind ESPN.com.  Check out his presentation here!

5/3/2011 -- Maneesh Arora and many more coming soon...
